Most clinics today offer an online consultation as the first contact, in which you send photographs and information and receive a preliminary assessment. It is convenient, especially with treatment abroad, but the quality of the assessment you get depends greatly on how you prepare.
Take good photographs
The basis of a useful online assessment is good photographs. Take them in daylight without harsh shadow, of dry, unstyled hair, and from several angles: from the front with the hairline visible, from above of the crown, from both sides, and from behind of the donor area at the back of the head. Show both the problem area and the donor, since the assessment depends on both.
Give the right information
Besides photographs you should state your age, when the hair loss began, whether it is progressing quickly, any family history, any medication and previous treatments. The more precise the information, the better the assessment. Be honest about your expectations too, so that the clinic can address whether they are realistic.
Ask what matters
Use the consultation to ask the critical questions: is a specialist doctor present during the procedure? Who designs the hairline and opens the channels? How many grafts do you recommend, and why? What is the full price? How does the follow-up work? A reputable clinic answers concretely; one that speaks in general sales language is telling you something.

Assess the answer critically
Watch for warning signs in the answer: sales pressure, unrealistic promises of low hairlines or high graft counts, a very low price, or no doctor in the conversation. An online consultation that feels like a sales call rather than a clinical assessment should arouse scepticism. Do compare several clinics.
The limits of a digital assessment
An online assessment has its limits. A final plan often requires a physical examination in which the surgeon can assess the density of the hair, the miniaturisation and the donor in detail. Regard the online consultation as a good first screening and a tool for comparing clinics, not as the final, complete basis for a decision.
