12 questions you should ask the clinic before you book
The right questions quickly reveal a clinic that has its house in order, and expose the ones that do not.
Why questions reveal quality
The right questions are your strongest tool. A serious clinic answers concretely, transparently and without becoming defensive. An unserious clinic becomes evasive, changes the subject or pushes for a booking. How they answer often reveals more than the answer itself.
Ask the questions in writing (for example on WhatsApp), so that you have the answers in black and white to compare clinics.
Questions about the surgeon and the staff
- Does the surgeon perform the critical steps personally, or is it technicians?
- Are the staff permanently employed or freelance?
- Is the surgeon personally affiliated with ISHRS?
- How many patients do you take in a day?
- How many years of experience does the surgeon have with my type of hair loss?
The single most important question is who holds the instrument, that determines the whole result.
Questions about certification and safety
- Do you have ISO and MOH certification, and can I have documentation?
- How do you handle sterilisation and hygiene?
- Are blood tests taken before the procedure?
- Who is responsible if complications arise?
A clinic that cannot or will not document its certifications should be ruled out straight away.

Questions about the plan, the price and the result
Ask to see unretouched before and after photographs of patients with your hair type and Norwood stage, not just the clinic's best cases. Ask as well:
- How many grafts do you recommend for me, and why?
- What density can I realistically expect?
- Is the total price fixed and in writing, and what is included?
- How do you take account of my future hair loss?
Questions about aftercare and follow-up
Always clarify how the follow-up works, especially if the clinic is abroad. Who do you contact with questions? How quickly do they reply? Is there a coordinator who speaks your language? Do you get a written aftercare protocol to take home?
Good follow-up should be agreed before the operation, not improvised afterwards. See the whole checklist together in choosing a clinic, and read about aftercare, so that you know what awaits.
How to interpret the answers
The answers themselves are only half of it, the way they are given reveals at least as much. Note whether the clinic answers concretely and in writing, or whether it becomes vague, changes the subject and pushes towards a quick booking. Good clinics have nothing to hide and can withstand thorough questioning.
Red answer patterns include: evasive answers about who performs the procedure, missing documentation for certifications, unrealistic promises about density, and reluctance to give a fixed, written total price. If you catch these early, you save yourself from a poor experience. See the whole picture in choosing a clinic.
One final good sign: a serious clinic also asks questions of you, about your hair loss, your family history, your expectations and your medication. A clinic that only sells and never assesses is thinking about the booking, not about your result.
